  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

That's just WRONG! It's not supposed to start until the day AFTER THANKSGIVING!!!@!

Thanksgiving is late this year though... I'm guessing the retailers are trying to get in every suggestion they can that it's time to BUY!

Good luck with the Bake-Off, Queen Claire!

Jennifer, the Christmas creep has been so bad for so long that I can't remember when they used to wait until after Thanksgiving to overdo decorations, etc. Can you? When did this all start?

Claire, I heard it today also as I was driving through Columbus! Seriously?!?

The Christmas Creep has been going on for awhile, but they used to at least hold off the music until AFTER Thanksgiving.

Think if they hadn't waited until after the election. Think of what would have happened if you had to deal simultaneously with the stress in the run up to the election AND non-stop Christmas music?! I think heads would have exploded.
